Choosing The Best Cinema Software For Your Needs

In the last couple of decades, cinema software has evolved so much that it can be tailored to suit specific requirements, thereby offering greater choice and flexibility for all users. For example, top end cinema packages such as Light Speed Video Digital Video Recorder (SLV Recorder) can now be adapted with sophisticated image stabilisation algorithms that provide flawless picture quality throughout the whole recording process. The cost of incorporating these additional features depends on the type of processor employed in the hardware and on the number of video inputs and recording slots available in the chosen cinema software package. A good software package will include different types of processors and different functions and will have a user guide that helps with the selection of the right one.

If your budget does not allow for advanced processing power and complex image stabilisation algorithms, there is still a way to get a quality picture from your digital cameras or camcorders. Basically, you need to set up your theatre system and purchase some cinema software that can be adapted to your needs. For example, if you want to record your film during the dark or use Steady Shot techniques, you will need a different cinema software system than if you are planning to shoot in the bright sunlight. Another example is if you are going to record scenes in the rain, you will require a different feature set from those who are shooting in sunshine. Once you have your film developed, you can either export to DVD or send it to a DVD expert for professional advice on the best format to save it.

Some directors and producers choose a basic theatre management system for their movie theatres. This package usually comes with simple pre-recorded programmes, which can be updated or deleted as and when required. This might seem like a good option, but it lacks a few features that may prove useful to you. For example, most systems do not have the capability to edit video streams, which means you cannot rewind and fast forward through programmes recorded on-off-tape.

Some cinema experts and technicians offer more comprehensive cinema CD/DVD packages, based upon the kind of multimedia experience you want for your theatre. For example, if you prefer to show films that contain vibrant colors and high resolution, a lot of equipment is needed. On the other hand, if you are looking for something that can capture classical and romantic images, say, a staged presentation with background music, there may not be much need for sophisticated equipment. These packages are available at extra cost, but can be worth considering if you have a large budget to work with.

Before you choose cinema software, make sure you know what your requirements are. If you have a complicated set-up with lots of lighting and sound effects, a more advanced piece of software will be more suited to your needs. If you are just running a small amateur theatre, a basic package should be fine. However, if you expect a film festival coming to your small theatre, you will require a lot of features, particularly if your audience will include children. Such features will need to be available in the cinema software you decide to purchase.

Another factor that will affect your choice of cinema software is whether it will be used on a Mac or a PC. Both machines have their own advantages and disadvantages. A lot of features are available only on PCs, for example, while Macs offer better compatibility with video games. You may also consider trial offers of different packages before buying one.
